Top 8 2020 Diaries for Australian Creatives

Top 8 2020 Diaries for Australian Creatives

It's THAT time of year again! My annual Diary/Planner round up! Here you'll find 8 2020 Planners created by amazing Aussie businesses.

I can't quite believe it's already that time of year again, to start thinking about diaries for next year, but as I always say, September, October and November just don't exist, it goes straight from August to December in two seconds flat!

So I've done all the hard work for you, compared all the NEW offerings for Paper diaries created by Aussie Small businesses, to help you choose your fave, and get your year off to a cracking start!

This year is ALL about Monogramming! LOTS of these diaries offer FREE Monogramming on their diaries, and what better way to personalise your most used possession (other than your phone duh!)

Why Aussie? Why Small Business? and Why Paper?

As an Aussie Small business, we at Afternoon Pick Me Up LOVE supporting other Aussie Small businesses. We believe in lifting each other up, celebrating each others offerings and supporting each other by engaging, purchasing and yelling out loud when we love other brands products!

Oh and why paper? I've tried to switch to tech planners after much begging from my husband, but mate, the tech world is not for me when it comes to my diary. I want it infront of me, crisp pages and squiggly doodles. I want to be able to cross things out, stick things in, plan, create and dream. That's why a paper diary is for me.

To help you choose a planner that is right for you, have a think on these questions to find out what's important for you!

- How do I use my Planner? Does it sit on my desk all year? Is it in my bag all year?

- Why do I use my Planner? Do I use it to plan AND document or JUST to plan?

- Do I use it for work or social? Or both?

- Do I need space to take notes and dream?

- Do I need to meal plan or organise other areas in my Planner too?

Consider all these questions about how you use your planner to help you narrow down your search!

Here's how I use mine -

- How do I use my Planner? Does it sit on my desk all year? Is it in my bag all year?

Mine goes with me everywhere, so it has to be durable and ideally not fabric. Fabric tends to soak in stains and ends up looking ratty quite quickly! It also sits on my desk a lot, so i love being able to have a planner that can open and sit flat.

- Why do I use my Planner? Do I use it to plan AND document or JUST to plan?

I use mine to plan my weeks, to create to do lists, to keep tabs of social events, to meal plan, to write my grocery list. Most things end up being planned in my planner.

- Do I use it for work or social? Or both?

Both, I plan appointments, brunches, meetings, to do lists, monthly strategy, parties, and catch ups!

- Do I need space to take notes and dream?

I love being able to take notes weekly, it helps me keep track of what I need to remember. The biggest lie i tell myself is "I'll remember that". I do have a seperate book that I take weekly notes in, but its a bonus when everything is together!

- Do I need to meal plan or organise other areas in my Planner too?

I love being able to meal plan, have a running grocery list for the week and have a notes section each week!

So here's the summary of what I look for in a planner

- Durable cover that will outlast coffee splashes, being bumped around in my hand bag, being walked across by my cat and survive the ever inevitable pen swipes.

- A5 size - I find this is the perfect fit for my handbag as well as being able to actually see everything in one swift go.

- Week to a page - I don't have meetings all day that I need to track by the hour and I love being able to see my whole week at a glance.

- Space for notes/meal planning/grocery list, ideally on each week!

- Multiple Ribbons dividers - the more the merrier to make for easier access to the areas I need.

Without further ado, my top picks for 2020 Diaries (in no particular order!)

Behind The Desk with Harley Quinn & Co

I hope you're loving this behind the scenes series as much as I am! I love a good snoop into how people really work, what they surround themselves with and how they work best!

Last week we interviewed the lovely Emma Kate from Emma Kate Co, check out her beautiful work space and find out how she structures her days here.

This week we talk to freelance graphic designer and hand letterer Erin from Harley Quinn and Co! She designs the most beautiful prints, and has the sweetest pup to boot, read on to find out all about how she spends her time in her studio!

Who are you!? Tell us about your creative job and how you got there

Hello! My name is Erin and I am the designer/person behind Harley Quinn and co. – my freelance graphic design business that I run part time. I work full time in Marketing, though have always loved the creative & design elements of my job, so a few years ago chose to complete a graphic design course. Long story short, I fell in love with typography and hand lettering, which lead me to start HQ&Co., not only as a freelancing business, but also as a bit of a creative outlet for myself. I spend most of my spare time freelancing for clients – whether it be logo and branding design, design for products, invitations and stationery design, or content creation, and also creating products for my own online shop and content for my own platforms – mainly Instagram and my website/blog.

What does your desk and studio look like? Describe it in 3 words

Messy, colourful, decorative.

What does a typical day in your studio look like?

There isn’t really a typical day, it really depends on the projects I’m working on – the fun of freelancing is that you get to work on lots of different projects with different brands, so each day can be really different from the previous. I also don’t often have a full day in the studio, because I run HQ&CO. part time, so generally I’m working for a few hours each night when I get home on client work, and then I’ll also spend a few hours each weekend working on either client work or personal projects, creating content or finishing off anything I missed during the week. If I have a full day, I’ll use the morning to shoot any photos I need to take – morning light is always the best, and I’ll spend the afternoon editing/designing work on the computer. I also always try to spend a few hours a week hand lettering – whether it’s for clients or for myself, my studio is often littered with pages and pages of lettering waiting to dry!

What is the first thing you do when you sit at your desk in the morning?

Make sure my water bottle is full, and then check over my to-do list. Being organised is really important, especially when you’re working for yourself, there’s no one else to keep you in check or keep you on track!

How do you break down your day?

Because I’m rarely at my desk for a full day, I’m usually just powering through trying to get everything I need to get done completed in the time I have!

What tools do you use to structure your time?

I’m all about a classic, handwritten to-do list. There’s something about writing out a to do list that instantly makes you more organised, and finally crossing items off that list is so satisfying. I’ll create a weekly to-do list that I work from each week and update as I go, but I also have some larger scale planning documents that I use to organise my monthly workflow. I just created these in Excel in a spreadsheet as a kind of work in progress document, so that I can keep track of what I’ve quoted, where each job is at, and so that when I get enquiries about a new project, I can check to see if I would feasibly have time to fit it in within the deadline. Balancing full time work with HQ&Co. means I’m very conscious of not over-loading myself with work otherwise I’ll end up missing deadlines and letting clients down. Or overworking myself and running the risk of burning out and not enjoying my work anymore. I always try to maintain some kind of balance!

What time of day do you do your best work?

Usually the afternoons, when everything had calmed down, and I’ve run out of distractions!

What do you HAVE to have on your desk/in your studio at all times?

Other than my usual design tools, I always try to have flowers and plants in my studio to breathe a little bit of life into my space. It makes my home desk a much nicer place to be, especially when I've been in a more corporate environment all day in my full time job!

Which stationery items are you never without?

Blank paper. For scribbling, sketching, lettering...

What do your breaks look like throughout the day?

When I’m working during the day on the weekend they’re usually food or coffee related breaks. Or if I need some time away from my desk I’ll take my little sausage dog Harley for a walk, or get a coffee with my husband. I always try to make sure I get out of the house if I’m spending the weekend working, because I spend all week at a desk in my full time job, so as much as I love freelancing I do make sure I have plenty of down time too!

Favourite snacks to snack on through out the day?

Because I work from home for HQ&Co. the kitchen is a dangerous distraction! I am usually snacking on peanut butter toast, or cornflakes with milk (I don’t usually eat cereal in the morning, for me it’s an afternoon snack!) I also eat a lot of fruit. And drink a lot of chai tea.

Whats on your goal list for this month?

I don’t usually set monthly goals as such, though generally I just always aim to be organised for the next month coming before it hits. I'm also currently 29 weeks pregnant, so at the moment I'm trying to wrap up all of my client work before the Beb arrives so I can take some time off in July/August. Exciting times ahead!

Favourite stationery brands?

I’m being biased, but I’ve just collaborated with May Designs who offer these amazing customisable notebooks and diaries. Otherwise my usual go-to’s for stationery aren’t very glam - I usually just use those spiral notepads from Officeworks, and A4 printer paper!

Favourite candles to burn?

Anything vanilla scented.

Behind The Desk With Emma Kate & Co

I'm SO excited for this amazing blog series! Each week we'll be getting a behind the scenes sneek peak into the desks and workspaces of creatives who's work features in our Work In Style Box. I don't know about you but I LOVE being a snooper and seeing how people work. You all know how much I love my desk being as beautiful as possible, and I honestly believe that you will be more inspired and productive if you have a work space that is pretty AND practical. So grab a cuppa or a glass of wine and settle in to find out more about your favourite Aussie creatives!

Last week we chatted to Elaina, one half of The Husk Mill, who she formed with her kinder bestie Cherylea! Catch all the behind the scenes here!

This week we're chatting to the ever inspiring Emma Kate from Emma Kate Co. This lady is beautiful inside and out and the way she leads her life and business is testiment that every thing she puts her hand to has some kind of magic involved.

Who are you!? Tell us about your creative job and how you got there

I’m a designer, letterer, photographer, perpetual traveller and all-round creative wayfarer.

I spend my days (and nights) running my own small business - Emma Kate Co. which is part stationery and lifestyle brand, and part travel blog.

We wholesale our stationery, homewares and travel collections to our network of beautiful independent stores who stock our products around the world - and we sell direct to our customers online. When I’m not running the ins and outs of this business, you might find me putting brush to paper, immersed in the design of a new collection, jumping on a plane to capture a new destination, pouring my all into a brand campaign, leading a workshop, writing, photographing or consulting, and travelling as much as possible, always.

After years of freelancing in design and working in publishing, I started Emma Kate Co. in 2015... and I’ve never looked back!

What does your desk and studio look like? Describe it in 3 words

A cosy blank canvas!

What does a typical day in your studio look like?

While it feels there is never a typical day for me, there are certainly some constants and routines in the everyday demands of running a small business.

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays I work out of our studio space in Glen Iris, together with my wonderful studio assistant Zalie. On these days, we focus on the wholesale and product based arm of my business - where we’re in touch with our stockists, send orders out the door, and prepare for new releases, upcoming trade shows or design markets.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I work from my home studio in Richmond. On these days I try to focus more on creating, writing and the tasks that require immersion. I will also take photos for branded campaigns, or blog content to write from home. I don’t create well around chaos - I need stillness and presence for clarity.

What is the first thing you do when you sit at your desk in the morning?

I always bring to my desk a strong English breakfast tea, I light a candle or some incense, and then I sit down. I always start a look through emails and orders that have popped up overnight. And then, write out my to-do list for the day.

How do you break down your day?

I try to handle emails at the start and close of each day, but not be too caught up with the inbox during the day itself, as they can eat up so much time.

On studio days, we tend to spend the morning doing admin - raising wholesale orders, booking couriers, packing orders to go out. On days I work at home, I’ll spend the mornings doing creative work - lettering, designing, planning. My best time for creative writing is usually late at night, after the world goes to sleep (usually with a glass of wine!)

What tools do you use to structure your time?

A mix of paper and digital. We use Asana - an online project management tool, which is great for breaking down BIG plans with actionable lists and smaller milestones, all delegated to the right person, and attached to a timeline. I also use Google Calendar - and my own weekly planner, of course!

What time of day do you do your best work?

Very early morning before the world wakes, or very late at night, while everyone sleeps. There’s definitely a magic in the air at these times, for me.

What do you HAVE to have on your desk/in your studio at all times?

Our Nespresso machine - we couldn’t exist without it! Indoor plants. Fresh flowers. Candles. Clean, white paper. And lots of natural light.

Which stationery items are you never without?

My (own) 2018 planner, and a notebook to scribble in, and my favourite writing pens: the Stalogy - Low-Viscosity Oil-Based Ink Ball Point Pen, and the MUJI 0.38 Gel Ink Pen.

A friend kindly brought me back some rose gold staples from Paris, and they’re always with me too. Little details are everything!

What do your breaks look like throughout the day?

Basically, just wanders over to the Nespresso machine.

Favourite snacks to snack on through out the day?

Avocado anything - I can’t imagine a day without avocado on my plate.

And my guilty pleasure is Tyrrell’s Sea Salt & Cider Vinegar chips.

Whats on your goal list for this month?

I just signed up to the New York Stationery show (eek!) - so I’ll be throwing myself heart first into all the plannings & logistics required for that.

Favourite stationery brands?

Can I say Emma Kate Co.? I also love + really respect the style and work of Bianca Cash.

I wish I could be as cool as she is :) xo

Favourite candles to burn?

Kandila Company’s Espresso - yum!

And Alchemy Produx’s Lychee + Black tea is my longstanding favourite.

Behind The Desk with The Husk Mill

I'm SO excited for this amazing blog series! Each week we'll be getting a behind the scenes sneek peak into the desks and workspaces of creatives who's work features in our Work In Style Box. I don't know about you but I LOVE being a snooper and seeing how people work. So grab a cuppa or a glass of wine and settle in to find out more about your favourite Aussie creatives!

Last week we hear from Jen from Jen and Jennifer all about how the runs her illustration business from her home office in London. Click here to check out her blog post and see her gorgeous desk!

This week I'm so excited to chat to Elaina, one half of The Husk Mill. Cherylea and Elaina have been besties since KINDERGARTEN and thought up their gorgeous business over a cup of tea! Read on to hear the behind the scenes..

Who are you!? Tell us about your creative job and how you got there.

The Husk Mill started about 3 years ago as passion project between myself (Elaina) and my best friend Cherylea . I was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease and around the same time Cherylea was diagnosed with a rare neurological condition. Our thinking changed dramatically about how lived and what we put in our bodies. It was over a cup of tea one night that we worked out there was something missing for those that can't indulge in whatever foods they want; and the idea of creating a delicious yet good for you cacao tea was born.

What does your desk and studio look like? Describe it in 3 words

In three words it's a beautiful organised mess.

What does a typical day in your studio look like?

I do a lot of work from home and I also have an 11 month old daughter. So as well as caring for her, I take the time to write a list and do what most normal people do - work down the list from most important to least.

What is the first thing you do when you sit at your desk in the morning?

I drink a cup of cacao tea and get distracted looking on Instagram. Then I get to my endless list of emails.

How do you break down your day?

I try to have a really well balanced meal each day and I take the time to make something simple, quick yet nutritious. That helps me to stop and shift into the next phase of my day where I might need to focus on something completely different. It also fuels me for the day. Sometimes I am so busy I forget to have a proper meal, so I try to make myself stop and make something delicious.

What tools do you use to structure your time?

I use a diary. I've never had one before. I write everything down to ensure I don't forget things as I am a notoriously forgetful person.

What time of day do you do your best work?

Usually between 1 - 3 pm when Mila (my daughter) has her longest sleep.

What do you HAVE to have on your desk/in your studio at all times?

I have to have my phone and some Lucas paw paw ointment as well as my diary.

Which stationery items are you never without?

My sister in law gave me An Organised Life diary and I gushed to her the other day how much it has changed and structured the way I work.

What do your breaks look like throughout the day?

They vary according to Mila's needs. I wouldn't say I ever have a real break, it is more just shifting from one role to the other.

Favourite snacks to snack on through out the day?

Carrots, or our dark single origin Australian chocolate with Murray River pink salt.

Favourite candles to burn?

My ultimate candle is Acqua Di Parma's Red Berries candle. There is nothing like it!

You can find The Husk Mill's Australian Dark Chocolate with Murray River Pink Salt in our Work in Style Box. Check out the rest of their amazing Teas via their website and also in some of our other boxes!

Behind The Desk with Jennifer Darr of Jen and Jennifer

I'm SO excited for this amazing blog series! Each week we'll be getting a behind the scenes sneek peak into the desks and workspaces of creatives who's work features in our Work In Style Box. I don't knwo about you but I LOVE being a snooper and seeing how people work. You all know how much I love my desk being as beautiful as possible, and I honestly believe that you will be more inspired and productive if you have a work space that is pretty AND practical. So grab a cuppa or a glass of wine and settle in to find out more about your favourite Aussie creatives!

Our very first guest is Jen from Jen and Jennifer! Known for her amazing waterclour and ink fashion illustrations, Jen's pieces are iconic! Orginally from Brisbane, and after a short stint in Melboure, Jen packed up her brushes and pens for London where she sits at the most beautiful desk and adventures around London and Europe with her hubby. Find her beautiful 'Flower Pockets' watercolour in our Work In Style Box.

Who are you!? Tell us about your creative job and how you got there

I am Jennifer Darr, I'm the Artist behind "Jen and Jennifer". Born and raised in Brisbane Australia, I studied and worked as a fashion designer before switching to Illustration when I moved to London in 2014. I now illustrate full time for clients and brands around the world, focusing on fashion and lifestyle.

What does your desk and studio look like? Describe it in 3 words

I've recently moved back to London after 18months in Melbourne so my new studio is still in the setup stages! But no matter where I am my desk is always "flower fuelled chaos".

What does a typical day in your studio look like?

One of the bits I love about working freelance is that no two days are the same, but typically my morning is filled with admin like answering emails and dealing with invoices and quotes, client meetings or research. I try to send off any mockups or preliminary sketches so that I might get feedback before the day is out, but working with clients in other timezones can throw this off! Before lunch is also the best time to photograph any content for commissions or social media as the light is best. After lunch I block out the afternoon for painting /illustrating as I find this is when I am most undisturbed. Once the daylight disappears, I start editing any work or photos and jump back online to check my emails again and plan out my "to-do" list for the next day.

What is the first thing you do when you sit at your desk in the morning?

I like to get all my admin out of the way in the morning so I'd say the first thing I do is check my "to-do" list and then answer emails and issue quotes/receipts etc I also check my social media and have a bit of a scroll through insta

Favourite snacks to snack on through out the day?

I love grapes and almonds, you’ll always find them in our house. At the moment I’m loving edamame beans too, something not messy that I can leave besides my work and snack on while I paint

What tools do you use to structure your time?

I'm an old school pen and paper user, you'll find written lists and calendars pinned up around my desk. I like to know the night before whats on my plate for the day and because I work with client deadlines, this mainly dictates what project I need to complete first. Also because the days are so short in London over winter I find at the moment the sun is structuring my work as I prefer to draw in the daylight.

What time of day do you do your best work?

I find either just before lunch or just after! Sounds like my life really does revolve around food

What do your breaks look like throughout the day?

Because I'm lucky enough to work from home most of the time I don't really structure my breaks, I take things day by day depending how busy I am and whats going on. I do tend to have lunch at the same time everyday (you'll usually find me watching Ellen) but there could be times where I need to meet with a client or duck out to do some life admin or grab more art supplies. If I'm feeling a little uninspired I pencil in a walk around London. I've learnt to not "bang my head against a brick wall" if somethings not working I stand up and take a break or get out into the fresh air. Being your own boss has its perks!

What do you HAVE to have on your desk/in your studio at all times?

Flowers! (Of course!) a bottle of water and a great playlist playing

Which stationery items are you never without?

The list is too long! I'm a massive stationary lover, but if I had to choose I’d say a pair of scissors always comes in handy and for drawing; my Copic fine liner, my Pentel ink brush pen and a good old pencil.

Favourite stationery brands?

Over here I mainly shop for supplies at Cass Art and love finding small boutiques or independent brands. If I was after a lovely notebook or diary I'd also probably look to Country Road, Kikki K or even Office Works.

Favourite candles to burn?

I really miss Glasshouse and Peppermint Grove candles from back in Australia! My London desk at the moment has a Diptyque, a Charles Farris and a So Soy.

What's on your goal list for this month?

I'm focussing on building my London based clients at the moment and I'm also making it a goal to be more organised in my finances

You can find Jen's 'Flower Pockets' print in our Work in Style Box. Check out the rest of her amazing work on her website or Instagram.

Top 7 Australian 2018 Diaries

Paper diaries are life. The thought of switching to a tech diary or iCal makes my skin crawl. I love to jot down notes, to doodle, to see whats coming up in any given week or month in one swoop, so paper diaries are my jam. Are you like me?

I've rounded up my 5 top diaries for 2018, and list the pros and cons of each so you can use this guide to figure out just which diary will help you see through another year, and I'm with you, it is actually a really important decision, a diary can make or break your organisation! Serious business!

Here's what I look for in a diary

- Weekly lay out

- Room each week for notes

- Ribbon dividers (2 MINIMUM!)

- A cover that will be long lasting and will survive being in my bag for a year!

Without further ado, my top picks for 2018 diaries!

Mi Goals 2018 Soft Cover Diary

Colours - Coral, Khaki, Black, Grey

My Pick - Coral

$29.95

Absolutely loved my grey leather look MiGoals diary last year! So happy with my choice and couldn't fault it all year! This year Migoals have switched to a fabric cover, and unfortunately I'm not a fabric cover lover. I take my diary with me everywhere so I need something that is hard wearing, and I always find that fabric picks up all kinds of grubby marks and pen marks. There are some amazing new feautures in this years diary though, if you are a fabric cover lover!

Features

- Weekly Layout

- Soft Fabric Cover

- A5 Size

- Goal Planning pages (LOTS!)

- 2 Ribbon Dividers

- Notes in each week

- Weekly Habits Tracker, Goals and Wins

- Goal Planning and How To

Pros

- Heaps of colours to choose from, and great colours at that, seriously hard choice between Khaki, Grey and Coral!

- 2 Ribbon Dividers

- Huge notes section on each page

- Weekly wins and goals (Super cute & handy!)

- How-To sections on how to goal plan and how to plan your week.

Cons

- I'm sorry to say, but fabric diaries aren't for me. They look worn in no time and get all kinds of grubby marks and pen marks on them.

- Ribbon dividers are black on the Coral Diary - would have been nice if they were grey and white or something a bit softer. The quality is also not as nice as last years.

Overall

I really loved last years MiGoals and honestly couldn't fault it. I never once second guessed my decision to get a MiGoals last year and LOVED the grey colour I chose too. I do love the new features, the weekly wins and goals as well as the How-To guides for goal setting but for me, a fabric cover is a deal breaker.

Black List Diary Linen

Colours - Grey, Chambray, Stars

My Pick - Grey

$44.95

This years BlackList diaries look significantly different to last years, and like MiGoals, they have gone for the fabric look this year. The new addition of Monthly tabs is genius and I abolsutely love the idea of them!

Features

- Hard Fabric Cover

- Gold Foil Typography

- Weekly View

- Ribbon Divider

- Tabs for each Month

Pros

- Weekly View

- Simple, Minimal design inside (nothing worse than an overcomplicated layout!)

- Monthly Tabs - pure genius, love the idea of these tabs for quick and easy access

Cons

- Again with the Fabric Cover

- Only 1 Ribbon Divider

- No Notes Section on each page

- Would've loved a better and broader selection of colours

Overall

Again, I'm not a fan of Fabric Covers, they get dirty so easily. I love the grey colour though and the gold stamped foil is truly beautiful. I love the idea of the tabs, and like the simplistic lay out. Would be great to have more than 1 divider ribbon and some more notes room.

Emma Kate Co 2018 Planner

Colours - Blush, Grey, Black

My Pick - Blush

$59.00

This years Emma Kate Co Diary has gotten slightly smaller (yay!), so it's great to take in your handbag everywhere you go! The Matte Laminated cover as opposed to fabric is a work of genius, and a HUGE selling point for me! This diary has been seriously thought through and it shows in every tiny detail.

Features

- Weekly Layout

- Vertical Layout

- Dot Grid pages for notes/doodling

- 3 Ribbon Dividers

- Back Pocket

- Elastic Band

- Comes in a keepsake box

Pros

- Matte Laminated cover - gets a huge HELL YES from me!

- Elastic band to keep everything together - pure genius and oh so handy

- Vertical Layout - makes so much sense to me!

- Notes section on each page

- 3 Ribbon dividers - YES THREE!

Cons

- I actually don't think I have any!

Overall

Love this diary. Love that it's slightly smaller than last years, and the matte cover is definitely the best descision. Vertical layout not be for everyone, but as a list writer, I'm a major fan! Would love to see the blush colour way with the simple arrow front cover, but the grey and black covers are gorgeous too.

An Organised Life

Colours - Black fabric, Black Leather

My Pick - Black Leather

$39.99

In previous years An Organised Life's diaries have been beautiful, but fabric, and you all know my stance on fabric. But this year, they have released a brand new edition that is bound in soft leather. *Cue Cheer*

Features

- Weekly Layout

- Gold foil detailing

- Back pocket

- 2 Ribbon Dividers

- Elastic Closure

- Goal Planning Pages

- Note Pages

Pros

- Clean Minimal Design, I love that it's just a black cover with 2018 in Gold - Classic

- Elastic Closure, always handy if the diary needs it

- 2 ribbon Dividers

- Note Pages

- Monthly goals and Favourite moments of the year - Love the second one!

Cons

- No Note space on each page

- That's it!

Overall

I love the simplicity of this diary, the gold foil on black is gorgeous, and I love the idea of having favourites moments of the year! A shame there isn't a notes section on each page though!

The Daily Edited

Colours - Pale Pink, Grey, Black

My Pick - Pale Pink

$69.95

I love everything The Daily Edited creates, and this diary is no different. Having a leather cover is so practical for me, and having it monogrammed just makes it even more luxe. And hey, this year, their sample photo already has my initials....maybe it's a sign!

- Weekly Layout

- Monogram Leather Cover

- Notes section per week

- 1 ribbon divider

- Birthdays, expenses, addresses sections

Pros

- Leather cover with personalised monogram available!

- Half page notes page on each week - huge amount of notes is always amazing!

- Clean, minimal layout

Cons

- Only 1 ribbon Divider

Overall

Love the look of this diary. Pale pink is my fave, and I love how much room there is for notes on each page. Huge bonus points!

- Wellness tracker each day - brilliant!

- List of ideas for wellness activities!! SUCH a brilliant idea, for when you're like ugh I should do something but I don't know what! Voila!

Cons

- My ONLY con, and this is because I'm trying to find something, is that I'm not a huge yellow fan, and one of the ribbon dividers is yellow!

Overall

The thought that has gone into this diary is brilliant. It's a place to combine all the things we're constantly trying to keep in up with!

Overall

A sweet diary with minimal but cute designs, in two gorgeous colours! The hardest part will be picking a colour!

Which diary I am going to use for the year us an important decision, and can really springboard my organisation and inspiration for the year. I'm a huge stationery lover and love to have pretty things strewn across my desk!

This year I'm loving diaries that have room to scribble and jot notes. My mind always wanders with ideas and inspiration and if I don't get them down, they disappear!

I love how all these diaries come in such a huge array of colours to suit everyone and I hope this has helped you narrow your selection!

Which diary is your top pick this year?

Happy Planning!

Top 5 2017 Paper Diaries for Australian Creatives

As much as my husband thinks my life would be so much easier if I went tech with my diary, I know deep down it will NEVER happen! I love having a paper diary WAY too much, being able to see it all spread out in front of me, being able to hand write and scribble out, a doodle here, a  doodle there, even tea stains and pressed flowers add to the beauty of my paper diaries!
Over the years I've had heaps of different brands of diaries. I've tried lots, and figured out what I love and what I loathe in diaries. This year I'm finding it particularly hard to choose from the huge array of gorgeous choices, but here are my Top 5 Australian 2017 Paper Diaries, with pros and cons of each, hope this helps your 2017 Diary hunt, as much as I'm hoping it'll help me narrow down mine!

This soft cover leather diary is seriously gorgeous! Blush leather with Gold Foil lettering on the front - yep, you had me at hello! I LOVE the front cover design of this diary, but soft cover may mean it doesn't hold up as well throughout the year.

This Weekly A5 diary features

- Soft Leather cover (Black or Blush)

- Weekly page view

- Ribbon Bookmark

- Note Pages

blacklist studio 2017 diary

Pros

- Weekly Page View - The best kind

- Heaps of Note Pages

blacklist studio 2017 diary

Cons

- Leather cover could also be a con - not sure if it would hold up well in your handbag throughout the year

- It looks like this baby is just a diary with some note pages, I know that's what diaries are supposed to be, but with all the other diaries offering some more features, this one does seem a bit thin on the planning and goals side.

- Layout - while its good to have large dates throughout, it doesn't actually leave that much room to write your daily tasks and appointments

Emma Kate Co Planner

Emma Kate + Co Planner

$59.00 + $10 Shipping

I just had to sneak this beautifully thoughtful diary into the mix. Emma Kate has created a seriously gorgeous diary that appeals to the creative, go with the flow area of my personality. I have never seen a diary designed like this before - with a vertical layout, more room for the weekends, and space to create and draw.

Feautures

- Vertical layout for more writing and list making

- Fabric cover in Blush or Grey

- Monthly and Yearly overviews

- Dotted pages to draw and create

- Extra space for weekends

- 2 Ribbon Bookmarks

- Bottom of the page tabs

Emma Kate Co Planner

Pros

- Vertical Layout - this makes SO much sense to me. I am forever writing lists in my diary, and a horizontal layout makes it annoying, but this is pure genius.

- Bottom tabs to create more space for writing - amazing!

- More space for weekends - GENIUS!

- 2 RIBBON BOOKMARKS!

- Having pages to draw and list write and think and dream, just brilliant!

Cons

- My only con would be that I don't think this beauty would lie flat on the table.

Verdict

I may or may not be more confused than ever about which diary to get for 2017, but I think at this point in time, I'm tossing up between the Migoals Diary and The Emma Kate Co Planner! Which one is your pick?
